Kevin,
If a person has had a DNA sample tested at another lab, will you be
able to add those values to our project chart. I know that some of
the numbers must be "adjusted" to make them compatible with the
testing procedures at FTDNA. I'm sure this would make the task much
more difficult for you, since you can download them from FTDNA.
However, if each person who had results from another lab, would tweak
the numbers into the pattern FTDNA uses, would you have time to type
the individual numbers into our chart?
Now Mike,
I've gone back to an older letter in my "Answer when you have time"
folder, and gotten this letter from you. What about the man with whom
you matched? Could you get him to add his profile to the chart, if he
can get the numbers to Kevin after having made the adjustments
necessary to match FTDNA values... IF Kevin can do that?
What about your other six markers? You had 43 done at DNA Heritage,
so you have at least 6 more not showing on the Carroll Project chart.
Since some of the alleles tested are different from those at FTDNA,
there will likely be more than six that could be added.
But what would trying to add values from different laboratories do for
everyone else... even if Kevin has time and can do the increased
amount of work? Maybe some others of you would like to comment on
that part of this. Would the chart be more confusing? Would it make
trying to make comparisons harder?
More about this later.

: Hi Peter,
:
: I too would like to welcome you to the group! I read with interest
your
: message of introduction, since both you and I have O'Carroll
ancestors in
: Ireland. I hope you do join us by taking part in DNA testing. I
did so a
: couple of years ago when I found a gentleman living in County Meath
Ireland
: whose ancestors were from the same townland as mine. His surname is
: O'Carroll, and we matched perfectly on the DNA Heritage 43 marker
test.
: He's been able to track his branch of the family back to the early
1800s,
: but I haven't been quite so successful. Unfortunately, we still
haven't
: found that common ancestor.
:
: As far as I've been able to determine, our Carroll (O'Carroll)
ancestors
: were "removed" from their lands near Abbey Leix in the 1600s, and
travelled
: to the area near Virginia, County Cavan. It's from there that my
branch of
: the family emigrated to Minnesota, USA in the late 1800s.
:
: Once again, welcome, and good luck with your research!
