Frank,
There is one dual project for both Y-DNA and mtDNA for
Johnston/Wake Counties, NC. Since your John W. Carroll lived so
close to the Johnston County border, they might accept the Y-DNA
results for Rodger or John Sidney into their project. There
aren't very many in that project so far.
See:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Johnston-WakeCountyNCDNA%20Research/d...
I hope more geographical projects will begin to help identify
non-paternal events.
Lura

Subject: Re: [CARROLL-DNA] ** NULL Value at DYS 425
| Dear Lura, Whit, & Kevin
| Even though my surname is Edwards rather than Carroll, I have
been
| interested in the Carroll DNA results and helped instigate two
Carroll
| tests, those of Rodger Carroll, Kit # 28445 and John Sidney
Carroll, Kit
| #46299. The three of us have a common ancestor, John W. Carroll
(1789-1867).
| Their DNA's are perfect matches and we have a good paper trail
back to John
| W. Carroll. But their DNA's do not match the other Carrolls in
S. Sampson
| County. I suspect that John W. Carroll moved into the Newton
Grove area of
| NE Sampson County about 1820, married Elizabeth Joyner, and
farmed there on
| Elizabeth's inherited land until they migrated to Gibson
County, TN in 1848.
| We haven't been able to identify the parents of John W. Carroll
and sort of
| suspect that there might have been an adoption (or maybe even
an
| out-of-wedlock event). So I've been hoping to find a DNA match
with some
| other surnames from the area around Sampson County.
|
| If you have any suggestions about how to proceed to locate
matches in other
| surnames around Sampson County, I would be very grateful for
your advice. I
| had my own DNA tested recently (the 37 marker combination Y-DNA
and mtDNA)
| but I really don't know much about how to interpret the results
yet. I've
| been buried in traditional genealogical research on my Edwards
line.
|
| Thank you for any suggestions. Frank Edwards
