James,
I wrote that recent letter to you on the mail list from notes I had made on a list of
books I am compiling about the Carroll family.
I had forgotten where I had found the info.
Hoorah for Yahoo Computer Search! I just did a search of my computer and found the source
of my notation was from a letter I
received less than a year ago on the CARROLL-L list. {One of the joys of these golden
years is that you get the joy of discovery of
the same thing over and over and over... because you completely forget it each time.}
Anyway, the letter is below.
Below that letter is one I mailed in reply. I used a salutation of "Carolyn"
because that name is at the bottom of the letter even
though it says "Judith Piatt" on the From line. It seems I was being more
analytical about the information last year, and/or I
didn't read it carefully enough this time.
Apparently she found that book in some genealogy library. I'm afraid that is the
extent of my knowledge about the book.

: In researching my line of CARROLL's (William out of NC) came across the following
info in the geneology section of library: A
book "Tracing The Steps of the Carroll Clan" by Elsie Bailey of Georgia she
purports that most Carrolls are direct descendents of
Ely O'Carroll of Ireland; that Charles and Daniel came to Maryland in Oct 1688. Three
of Charles and Elizabeth's sons left Catholic
Church, were disinherited/excommnicated. She states they moved in to VA and reared large
families: John, Benjamin, Edward, Peter,
James, Clement, William. In 1700's moved into Orange CO, Hillsborough, NC. In the
book was copy of a letter written in 1908.
Excerpt: "My Dad told us this story......His father was Thomas Carroll. .....they
left Maryland, he and a brother named James.
They came through Virginia to North Carolina, then to Georgia. ......This was Framklin
County, Georgia, later this land was in
Habersham. Old Uncle James died there.......Grandpa moved ondown to the so!
: uth. He died in 1840 in Fayette County. He hadseveral children. signed - Aunt
Minnie......Hope this will give someone some

: Carolyn,
:
: Thank you for sharing the information from Elsie Bailey's book, "Tracing the
Steps of the Carroll Clan". Sometimes I wonder just
: how many books have been written about this Carroll family - and all if them seem to
differ in some way??
:
: I like this theory, because it fits into the picture the family lore that many of us
have heard saying we were related to CC of
: Carrollton. However, I wonder what documentation she used to arrive at these
conclusions. I've seen several accounts that indicate
: that Charles Carroll of Annapolis who married Elizabeth Brooke had only one child -
Charles Carroll of Carrollton. His father,
: Charles Carroll of Litterluna or Charles Carroll the Immigrant, was not married to a
lady named Elizabeth. His two wives were
Martha
: Underwood and Mary Darnall.
:
: I have not personally researched this, but one online site maintained by Scott and Lois
Helmers that lists this family can be
found
: at
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4688/carroll.html
:
: Just thought I'd share another idea for comparison.
