James,
I happen to see this in my notes today while I was looking for something else. I'm
afraid I did not record the source of most things in my early days of research, because I
really didn't start out to do genealogy... just to find the father of Alexander
Carroll. Anyway, I just had to send this since it mentions Orange County, NC. I have now
learned not to accept things unless I check them out.
If the following is true, that is even more reason to try to find someone from the family
of CC of Carrollton to take the DNA test.
Hope this helps you... or anybody,
Lura

"Tracing The Steps of the Carroll Clan" by Elsie Bailey
She purports that most Carrolls are direct descendents of Ely O'Carroll of Ireland;
that Charles and Daniel came to Maryland in Oct 1688. Three of Charles and
Elizabeth's sons left Catholic Church, were disinherited/excommnicated. She states
they moved into VA and reared large families: John, Benjamin, Edward, Peter, James,
Clement, William. In 1700's moved into Orange CO, Hillsborough, NC.
In the book was copy of a letter written in 1908. Excerpt: "My Dad told us this
story......His father was Thomas Carroll. .....they left Maryland, he and a brother named
James. They came through Virginia to North Carolina, then to Georgia.
