Subject: Fw: [CARROLL-DNA] FW: Spanish (Basque?) R1a Oddity
Hello to All,
When I wrote last week...
" I think many Carrolls will be surprised to learn that all do NOT come from
Ireland and even fewer are 'cousins' of CC of
Carrollton... as the family legends have been told."
I had no idea anyone on this mail list had any opinion on this one way or another...
just that many post queries on the message
boards and on mail lists about their connection to CC of Carrollton. Even one of my very
close relatives made light of my genealogy
efforts by saying, "Just go to CC of C and follow the line on down to us."
Also an instructor of genealogy at our community college
said, "Well, the CARROLLS started out in Maryland."
I think all of us on this list are here to find proof of our heritage no matter where it
began. It won't change who I am... no
matter what I learn.
Lura

Subject: Re: [CARROLL-DNA] FW: Spanish (Basque?) R1a Oddity
: Hello,
:
: I am writing to let inquiring skeptical minds know that I, Kevin Carroll
: have never made any remarks about Africans, the former owners of slaves, or
: that Carrolls only come from Ireland. I do not enjoy reading in a public
: forum about remarks which I never made and therefore I hope that the writer
: of these untrue comments will let my message remain on the
: CARROLL-DNA-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:CARROLL-DNA-L@rootsweb.com> in order tell the
truth.
:
: I have focused very heavily in my communications about the Carroll Clans
: from Ireland and their Celtic Origins.
:
: I did receive a message from an unhappy recipient of one of my mailings who
: stated, in part, ..."I for one am sick and tired of all your servings up of
: Irish history, mythological or real."...
:
: I found these remarks to be very unkind and undeserving. Also a lot of our
: ability to trace our origins are with the use of mythology and oral history.
:
: While the FamilyTreeDNA project is open to all Carroll's it would be untrue
: if I said that most of them come from other than Ireland. The very idea of
: DNA is to match DNA and find out one's origin regardless of the Surname
: although it is most likely that those with the same surname will find a
: match more quickly than otherwise. All Carrolls and even those without the
: Carroll surname are welcome into our group at FamilyTreeDNA if they find
: that they might have the possibility of matches with other Carrolls ( That
: is Carroll in all it's variant spelling whether from the Slavic countries or
: elsewhere). I would also point out that there are probably many African
: American's with the Surname Carroll who actually have the Carroll family
: DNA.
:
: I am a volunteer. I don't receive any commission from FamilyTreeDNA. I do
: this because I enjoy it. I hope that the Administrator of the
: CARROLL-DNA-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:CARROLL-DNA-L@rootsweb.com> will desist with
making personal attacks against
: me. In particular I am not happy to see remarks attributed to me about
: Africans and former Slave owners, remarks that were not made by me.
:
: I also want to point out that I have corresponded with a number of Spanish
: whose twelve markers matched with me. One of whose family came to the New
: World in the 1600's, ( from Northern Spain ), and with Germans. It was
: their opinion that maybe they were somehow descended from the Goths who came
: down from Germany to Spain. I am sure that my Carroll's came from Ireland.
: The Milesians were said to have stopped in Spain during their migrations.
:
: Well, I just want to set the record straight. I hope that the Administrator
: of this site will allow this message to be published. Thank you.
:
: I also hope that all Carroll's reading this will join our project at
:
FamilyTreeDNA.com and in the years to come it will allow many separated
: families to find one another again...
