You mention two very good points!
I also wish that each man who has been tested would send to Kevin
Carroll
kushtiqa(a)hotmail.com at least a little information about his
lineage, even if he does not feel comfortable in sending all of
it. The names of living individuals probably should not be
placed on the chart. The cousin whose DNA I sent for testing is
now 101 years of age, so it seems I skipped several generations
in the chart. I actually begin with his father who was born in
1861. Most could begin with the grandfather without an identity
hazard. Or as you said, at least give the name of the earliest
known ancestor.
Now about tests from other Labs.
Kevin, tell us about that from your standpoint.
It seems to ME that it would be very difficult for Kevin to plot
the results from other labs in the Chart he keeps. Not only do
the different labs test different alleles, but even if they have
the same spot on the gene, they sometimes process and record a
little differently. For example for some alleles, the value must
be changed to a higher or lower numeral when switching over.
It's like comparing apples and oranges. A man can have his
results from another lab transferred to FTDNA for a fee, but I'm
not sure of the procedure.
I think the best way for a person to compare with other labs is
to use a search instrument like
YSearch.org. I hope all of you
have uploaded your results to YSearch from your personal web
page. FTDNA will do that automatically if you click on the
hyperlink on the page with your Matches.
YSearch gives directions about how to convert from one lab to
another to the person entering the numerals manually from another
lab. Just choose the "Create a New User" tab on the top of their
opening screen.
If you have not uploaded your profile to
ysearch.org, you might
be helped by reading these directions:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/wyatt/messages/4992.html
Another place you can input your numbers and do a search is at
www.ybase.org. I have used this search instrument very little.

on the chart, or state they were from.

| Hi,
| The reason for joining the Carroll group is to determine
whether one has a
| common DNA match with a Carroll surname holder but the truth is
that 1000
| years ago the surname changed every generation so it would not
be correct to
| say only Carroll surname holders will match since the Carroll
roots along
| with other Clans spring from the same well which is a
Grandfather many many
| times removed. So the short answer is no but most of the
participants have
| the Carroll surname.
