These free databases offer you the opportunity to compare your Y-DNA results with others.
Each of them seems to offer a different format and have differing goals. YHRD is a
forensic database, for example. Sorenson offers free DNA testing but does not provide you
with your results - but those are eventually included into their growing database along
with lineage. As far as I know *Family Tree DNA does NOT AUTOMATICALLY upload your DNA
test results into their ySEARCH database - unless you gave permission - otherwise you must
enter your values manually, just once, and you will get an ID number. This will avoid
having to enter, say 37, values by hand each time you do a search.
There is nothing more frustrating than finding a YDNA match but with no lineage
information to go with it except "private". In some cases you can request the
company contact those private people to see if they wish to be contacted. I urge all of
you to submit your LINEAGES along with your DNA sample. Otherwise there is no way of
connecting.
