Thanks to you Eric.
My ancestor is Colin Carre(o)ll m.who , according to handed down tradition,
was dropped off in 1768 at age six by a party of Irish immigrants and taken
in by one Charles Littler in Frederick Co., VA. He was a weaver and lay
Methodist preacher and had red hair. He m. Ann Margaret Littler.
Items borne out by research are his marriage, inventory at death included a
loom and 12 religious books. I have found no trace of Charles Littler. The
dates are approximately correct.

Thank you Eric for accepting this task. Many people who work at the
job
of helping others find ancestors are never acknowledged. I
just wanted to be first in line to say how much I appreciate your
willingness.
My first known ancestor is Alexander Carrol/Carrell who married Lucy
Ryal/Royal
April 7, 1783 in Duplin County, NC. The area became
Sampson County the next year.
There were 10 households of Carrolls (Spelling for practical purposes)
there in the
1790 census. A group of 20 persons descended
from several of these families are now working together to try to
learn
their origin. So far all we see is the proverbial brick way.
The ten families are:
CARRELL Hardy
CARROL Alexander
CARROL Demey (Dempsey, Jr.)
CARROL Demcy (Dempsey, Sr.)
CARROL Elisha
CARROL Elizabeth
CARROL James
CARROL Jesse
CARROL John, Sr.
CARROL Stephen
Two men from our group have sent samples to be profiled. I have mentioned
this list
to them, but I don't know if they have joined. I
will mention it to them again. We know one of those is traced back to
one
of the original 10 families, but the other one is a little
later. We aren't sure yet from which family he comes.
I hope I can find one of the male descendants of Alexander to take the
test.
Thanks again,
Lura

Subject: Roll Call
Hello List,
Since Diana has resigned her list administrative duties here, I have
volunteered to
assume the tasks of CARROLL-DNA list
administrator. Perhaps the best way to start this off is a roll call
of
our earliest known male CARROLL ancestor. Mine is Philip
CARROLL or CARREL, born about 1775 in Pennsylvania or Germany. Y-DNA
test
results for his male CARROLL descendant indicates Y-DNA
Haplogroup R1a.
