List,
Please see that Kevin Carroll and Doug Carroll have now added a link to their family trees
- Gedcom files - at the site Kevin maintains. Nice going guys!
This is a good way to do it if you maintain a GEDCOM on the Internet, say at
Rootsweb.com,
or your private website, for your Carroll family. Kevin can make a link to it from the
main FTDNA Carroll site. Also notice how living individuals are protected.
Now you should realize however that access to the FTDNA Y-DNA Carroll Surname Project is
restricted to members of it. In my case, although my mother was a Carroll, I am not.
Shortly after Diana Mathieson created the Carroll Y-DNA Project site at FTDNA in 2004, I
prevailed upon my Carroll cousins to get Y-DNA tested. One of them did, for 37 markers,
and allows me to use his ID to access the site. That is legitimate and legal. He is as
my proxy Carroll.
My point is that Carroll lineages and family tree GEDCOM files linked to only the FTDNA
site are not available to other than members. That means your Carroll Y-DNA data is only
available to the other 29 or so members, not to all the other Carrolls in the the world
who may be looking for you.
That is why it is so important to also upload your test results, etc, to YSearch. YSearch
is accessible and searchable to all... Make sense?

Eric Olson
