Yesterday I mentioned wanting to find Carroll DNA donors from any area in the world whose
ancestors had remained in that location since the beginning of surname usage.
At the FTDNA Carroll website under "News" is posted this news item:
"20 April 2007 - Announcement -
One of our Members has offered to pay for a 37 Marker Test for up to five Carroll Surname
holders who can reliably trace their lineage and Clan or Sept affiliation back to the
1500's. You must be willing to share this lineage information with our other members
and website. Please contact the Administrator if you think you may qualify."
This does not indicate that the person must have lived in the area for 500 years, but just
show proof of lineage to that time. Also, this seems to imply that these ancestors should
have come from somewhere in the British Isles. I have most often seen the term
"sept" used when referring to Ireland or Scotland. Do you know someone who
might qualify for one of these free tests? Is there any CARROLL who can show a lineage
that far back?
