Just to make it more clear, I was recommending FTDNA to get anyone's DNA done.?
It is only helpful for direct male descendants who all have the same last name.?
Lawrences can only be compared to father Lawrence, grandfather Lawrence, brother Lawrence
or cousin Lawrence, etc.? It is very possible to have men of the same surname in the same
timeframe and same area who are NOT related as the Carrolls and others have come to
discover.? An impecable paper trail is very helpful but there are always some
assumptions.? DNA and research are a wonderful combination.
My husband has two Beasley lines who seemed unrelated.? A large Beasley?research group?did
DNA on both lines.? Amazingly, the line that lived in the same area proved (by four men
from different brothers) to be totally unrelated to the man we thought was the grandfather
of all of them.? They all four matched each other.? Then even more of a surprise was the
fact that a Beasley male living four counties away proved to be a exact match to the
grandfather.
You also have to be prepared to accept that a male may not really be his father's
child when both do their DNA.?

Susan,
For our benefit I wish your husband had a direct MALE lineage to
Hardy Carroll, so we could include him in the Carroll DNA
Project.
Hardy was just across the Sampson/Duplin County, NC border after
they divided in 1784, so I call him a "Sampson County" Carroll.
All of the ten families were in Duplin until after Sampson was
created.

| My husband is a descendant of Hardy Carroll in Duplin Co., NC.?
He has tested for all 67 markers on FTDNA and it has been a very
positive experience.? They even did a free Haplotype since he
didn't match any other Lawrences.? Just another person to
recommend them and their large database.

| Thanks Lura..I was kind of leaning toward FTDNA for this guy
too. I think
| that's the direction I'll point him in.
