Dear Eric,
I did followup with an offer to provide further info but there was no
reply. In the Maryland archives it mentions that this family are descended
from the Charles Carroll of Carrolton. The family acreage was carved up
between many of the Carroll family but I really haven't been able to
research this.
On the O'Carroll ( Cian ), while he has given courtesy recognition there
have been questions raised by Irish Historian, Sean Murphy (
http://homepage.eircom.net/%7Eseanjmurphy/chiefs/4chiefs.htm ) which deserve
some answers. I have not contact O'Carroll directly because there are some
who actually know him who have made the request. Giving DNA for some is a
very personal thing and there may be reasons why they don't want their DNA
out in the public. But I will make a request to him as well as a followup
to Phillip Carroll of Doureghan. I think Phillip Carroll may be of the
Carroll branch of Literluna while the O'Carroll of Cian may be from an
offshoot in Kerry but I am only writing what I may have read, not what I
know. Thanks.
Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
This should be of the highest priority for the Carroll Surname Y-DNA
Project. If he has living sons then it is not so critical to test him,
but
if not, what a loss to posterity if no haplotype can be obtained for
this
famous and historic family. Apparently is should be the same as the
current "Baron Ely O'Carroll himself," but who I hear will also not
test.
I don't know his name offhand, but I think Lura does.
How does this Philip Carroll living in Doughoregan Manor in Maryland
connect with Charles Carroll of Carrollton? Is he a direct descendant?
Regards,
Eric Olson
