I found one more of these Carrel / Carroll / Carle runaways which I missed.
Catherine Carle, Thomas Leonard, Monmouth, NJ, 1753, 1.5 pound reward.
Did you notice the unusual Carrowle spelling for Anne? I would pronounce it
Carroll.

My husband's family was Carrel.
They think that they a Scotish. No One knows. Supposedly the past family
said
they talked funny, which mean they could be Irish or Scotish. Simon
Thomas, or Thomas Simon was from Penn. He could have come in on a boat in
New Youk.
He possibly could have changed his name to Carrel from Carroll if he
took
off.
He went to Tenn and Ga. Bradley county, Ga. them up to Southern
Ill.We
just come to a dead end where Simon is conserned.
Thanks for email me. Very much appreciated.

Did your Carroll ancestors come to this country in the 1700's as
indentured
servants? I have just returned from the Seattle library with
copies of the pages of Carrolls who were runaway servants from PA, DE, MD
and NJ for whom a reward was advertised for their return to their masters.
There are listed about two dozen Carrolls. I'll be glad to do lookups ..
The book is "Runaway Servants, Convicts and Apprentices Advertised in the
Pennsylvania Gazette, 1728-1796, by Farley Grubb.
