Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thank you Miss Scarlett, <GRIN>
You have really energized this List! Folks seem to be drawing together
under your leadership. This is a very good thing. Of course you are Miss
Lura, but I couldn't resist the reference to the Novel and the Movie "Gone
With the Wind", and Miss Scarlett.O'Hara.
Please don't take me unkindly. I like your attitude and approach to the
Carroll genealogy puzzle. I was not able to do that as well as you will..
If anyone wishes to have it, I have made a GEDCOM file for Charles Carroll
of Carrollton, and will send it.to them privately..
All The Best,
Eric

We descend from a David Anderson Carroll and Gretta May Ellsworth. We are not sure these names are correct. They had a son Earl Clyde Carroll born 1902-1908 (circa) maybe in TN. Earl Clyde Carroll died young and his family was never notified. I have a photo of him, if anyone is missing a Carroll cousin.
Under my name in the letter I just mailed it says "This list is
adoptable", so I suppose so they haven't finished processing my
application. Before I sent that letter a few minutes ago, I mailed a
letter to CARROLL-DNA-admin(a)rootsweb.com and the letter came to me,
so I know part of it is working my name.
Also the mail list is no longer listed as adoptable at Rootsweb - at
least I can't find it there. If that remains on the bottom of the
letters in a week or so, I will try to get it corrected.
Lura CARROLL Southard
Some time ago Eric Olson told me he wanted to give up the job as administrator of this mail list and asked if I would assume the role. I told him I would consider doing it if no one else wanted it. It has been adoptable for a while, so last week I registered with Rootsweb to become the new administrator. I would like to learn how to do it, then maybe one of you will want to take it.
I have read through the material at Rootsweb, and I know they will be sending specific instructions to me as well. This is the first time I have done this, and I ask for your help. Please, any time you see that I have done something incorrectly or not done something that should have been done, will you please send me a note privately or on the list to help me learn?
The stated purpose of this list already established at Rootsweb is:
"The CARROLL-DNA mailing list is for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the application of DNA testing to genealogical research on surname Carroll and its variations (e.g., Caryll, Karol, Caroll, Karel, Karrel, Carrol, Carrole, Carrell, Carrel, Carill, Carrill, O'Carrol, O'Carroll, O'Cariel)."
Since this is a small list, and we have been dormant for a while, I would like to ask each of you to introduce yourself within the realms of your comfort zone of privacy, tell us who you are researching, what you are trying to learn, whether you have had any success so far in your search for DNA matches, or anything else you would be willing to share. Whether you tell us your name or kit number is entirely up to you. I caution you NOT tell us or anyone else your password. You might also want to share your ID # at YSearch.com, but again, do not tell the password.
I serve as the contact person for my 99 year old cousin, Robert Carroll, who lives in an assisted living facility and does not have access to a computer. However, using his old typewriter he did finish and publish a book last year entitled "Old, Odd, and Other Stuff" about his observations and recollections of Stokes County, NC. Bob has been interested in genealogy all his life, and did his research the hard way. When I first asked him almost three years ago if he would like to donate his DNA for our family, he was a little unsure. Later he told me he did want to do it and seemed thrilled to be a part of this new way of learning our past. However, he incorporated the fact that he had taken the DNA test in with some of his old information, which may seem to prove something that DNA can't prove. Perhaps I did not do a good job of explaining the information to him.
I will tell you more about our background later.
Robert Carroll is kit # 32061, and at YSearch.com his ID # is HRYB8.

Hi List,
Yes, Lura has graciously agreed to assume the Administration of this
CARROLL-DNA List. Thank you, Lura..
When I started this List, it was to augment the Carroll Surname Y-DNA
Project at FTDNA, (Family Tree DNA) specifically to provide a place for our
Carroll genealogies, or family trees, which is awkward at FTDNA. No room
for long lines of data.....
http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydna.html is Kevin Carroll's
surname site. He also is the Administrator of the Carroll Y-DNA Project at
FTDNA, at
http://www.familytreedna.com/(pse4buu3n05nu0q1m2ub4x55)/public/carroll/index
.aspx
with over 50 tested Carroll males. All Carroll's with any interest in DNA
and genealogy should visit those sites.
In my personal genealogy, my mother was Edith Carroll, presumably related
to Charles Carroll of Carrollton. A little excavation and Y-DNA testing
has disproved that theory completely. My Carroll's are neither descended
from this Charles, nor are we even Irish. Our Carroll / Carrel seems more
an Anglicized version of a Czech or Slovak surname. And we are the only
Haplogroup R1a in these Carroll projects. Most of you test as R1b...
Good Luck to you all.....
Good Luck Lura...
