My Carrington connection, as I know it, is my g-grandmother. If you
have the time, please read this and see if you may be able to help me!
I am stuck! I can't get past my grandfather on my maiden name line!!!!
Since my grandfather ran away from home to join the service, never
looking back, as we understand, we know virtually nothing about his
parents or siblings.
His mother, Mae or May E. Carrington was married to a Sherman. We
believe her husband's name to be William Francis Sherman, only because
my grandfather told my father when my brother was born that he should be
William Francis Sherman IV. That would make his father, also WFS!
My grandfather was born in Tampa, Florida, 2 April 1891. We don't even
know if that is accurate, since St. Louis, where his military records
should be cannot find them due to the "great fire"! The birth date came
from his headstone (furnished by the military at
Arlington Nt'l Cemetery, and his death record. I have sent for SS
record, but have not received it yet) Family legend has it that his
father (who would have been Mae Carrington's husband) worked for the New
York Railroad as an engineer (surveyor type) and was helping to build a
rr in Florida. Florida has made it difficult, if not impossible, to
obtain a birth record to verify anything! My father tried for years, to
no avail!
According to the 1920 census for my grandparents, his father was from
New York and his mother (Mae Carrington) was from Ireland. You now know
the extent of the information I have!
Does this Carrington line ring any bells? Does it fit into any of
yours! HELP! please!
Thanks, mucho! I appreciate any little crumb you may have to throw my
way!!!
