The reason I was looking for the John Cockerell Carrington line is because they were in
the Burleson Co Historical Book.
My John Carrington, son of Timothy Carrington and Winfred King, was m to Sarah H Lester.
They last lived in Coweta Co, Ga. He ran a store there. The next time I find either
of them is in deed records in Washington Co, TX. John received a small land grant in
1836 in Washington Co, TX, but we have never found him in any other record...Sarah and
the children sold the property in 1846.
John was the Tax Collector in 1835 in Coweta Co, but he took the money.
Their daughter, Mary A Carrington m Benjamin F Lyon in GA. They came to TX in about 1845
(we think Benjamin had been here eariler, but to date have no positive info). Sarah lived
with B F and Mary, and at times with her son Oliver Carrington in Brenham, Washington Co,
TX, until her death in
about 1870.
B F and Mary's sons moved to what was then Lyon's Station in what is now Burleson
Co. They were prominent people in the Lyons and Somerville area. BF's daughter
Martha, m Joseph McGee Woods. They had 9 sons, and they all lived in Somerville at one
time or other.
I was told by my Great Uncle, John William Woods, the oldest of the Wood/Lyon
grandchildren, that there was a John Carrington that lived in Bay City, that would visit
with the BF Lyon family in Washington Co, when he was growing up....
Have been trying to find another Carrington's that moved from that family to TX.
There are some Smith's, Thompson's, King's, Lewis's and Carrington's
that were all related to the Carrington's in GA. We have quite a bit of info on that
part of the family.
