Hi Cathy,
I'm up late doing a client project and saw your reply. The Carrington line in
Barbados is fairly well documented, and some of it is rather interesting (and scandalous
too). I have photographs of Henningham Codrington Carrington's tomb at St.
Philip's Parish church. Dr. Paul Carrington and first wife Thomasine Waterland had
scandalous and rather open affairs while married to one another, and he ended up getting
their marriage annulled. He and Henningham seem to have been faithful. Dr. Paul's
line is supposed to be:
Paul Carrington b1620 England, possibly Cheshire,(lived in Ireland some) - Sara Haughton
(two sons Paul b1620 and William b1625)
Roland Carrington b1600 England
Nathaniel Carrington b1575 England or Londonderry (Ulster)
This came from another researcher fairly recently.
The Codrington line goes back to bout 1300 and the Drury line goes back to 1100 (the first
Drury arrived in England with William the Conqueror). The Codringtons and Drurys were
landed knights and ladies in general. Some of our Drurys were Recusants (sic), a term for
people in England who remained loyal to the Roman church and refused to attend or support
the English Church. They lost some lands as a result.
Look up Katherine Roet Swynford b1350 online. She and her first husband, Hugh Swynford)
are our 17th or 18th great grandparents (a book was written about her). Her sister,
Phillipa, married Geoffrey Chaucer (the writer/poet who wrote Canterbury Tales).
Katherine's granddaughter married Sir William Drury.
