Unfortunately, Rev. Timothy CARRINGTON is our brick wall. We have no idea who his parents
were, nor do we know if he had any siblings. Several of us researching Rev. Timothy
believed he was part of the Charles County, Maryland CARRINGTON family because the given
name "Timothy" runs in that line, and there was a Timothy in one of the branches
about whom little was known who probably was born about the same time as our Timothy
(1742). There was very strong circumstantial evidence making us believe that our Timothy
would match this line.
My male CARRINGTON first cousin took the DNA test and later another descendant of Rev.
Timothy also took the test; not surprisingly the two men matched. A documented descendant
of the Charles County, MD CARRINGTONs also has taken the DNA test. It came as a great
shock to Rev. Timothy's researchers that his two descendants did NOT match the Charles
County, MD descendant. So we are back to square one in looking for Rev. Timothy's
ancestry. The good news is that the DNA samples for participants are kept on file by the
testing service for 25 years.
It is reasonable to believe that a man born in that era would have siblings or other
relatives somewhere. That is why it is so important for more CARRINGTON males, on
"both sides of the pond," to participate in the Y-DNA testing. If a descendant
of your James were to be tested and should happen to match another participant in the
project, it would help you to focus your research efforts more effectively. If your
descendant were to happen to match Rev. Timothy's descendants, it would indicate that
he did actually have a brother or uncle or cousin somewhere, and we could better focus our
research.
That is why I urge you to try to find a male descendant of your James to participate in
the CARRINGTON Y-DNA Project. If you desire more information about DNA testing, please
e-mail me directly (LFOT(a)mindspring.com).
