Now, if you are considering purchasing this book, please consider which of the 3 main
Carrington branches did you come from because this Carrington family line is definitely
from Maryland. It is the line of Samuel Carrington (father of Thomas) and Samuel moved to
Montgomery Co., KY in the early 1800s....this was following the Revolutionary War.
Samuel fought in the Maryland militia during the Revolutionary War .....and I would be
more than happy to provide you with more info on that if you are interested......since I
joined the D.A.R. with Samuel as my ancestor.
The reference to the "Wilson Girls" goes back to the 2nd wife of Thomas
Carrington----Turzy Jane Wilson.
I am descended from the first wife.......Elizabeth Caywood. It is thought that Elizabeth
died in Indiana and that she is probably buried there but there is no tombstone (if there
was, there isn't now).
My line of the Carrington family moved from this area of central Indiana to the eastern
border of Illinois.....wasn't all that far really. There are still descendants in the
eastern part of Illinois but they no longer have the Carrington name (being from female
descendants and all). And I would guess that some of them don't even know it!
And this guy, James Carrington - Civil War Soldier, certainly wasn't the only Civil
War Soldier from this line! My ancestor was a direct descendant of Thomas and mine even
joined the army in Indiana and was a member of a local group. However, he moved to
Illinois when the war ended and so the folks in Indiana don't even know about him (and
I'm sure there must have been many more like him).
Anyway, this is a great book....especially to those of us who know for sure that this is
"our line"........however, if you aren't sure about that, I would recommend
getting this book through "Interlibrary loan" at your local library! This is a
free service and it can help you decide if you really want this book! I can't
remember what it cost $36 or so.
