May 21, 1929 – November 28, 2005
A memorial service will be held, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, for Sally BENSON,
who died of pneumonia on Nov. 28 at age 76. The service will take place in the chapel at
Mary’s Woods Retirement Community, 17400 Holy Names Dr. Lake Oswego.
Sally was born May 21, 1929, in New York City. She was raised in Scarsdale, N.Y. and
spent summers for much of her life in Marion, Mass. She attended high school at Chatham
Hall in Virginia, and received her bachelor of arts in music and music history from the
University of Oregon. For many years she taught voice at Lewis and Clark College in
Portland.
Sally loved to perform music as well as teach it. She appeared in musical theater and
opera productions in San Francisco and Eugene, and gave solo performances in Portland,
while teaching at Lewis and Clark. She also loved traveling all over the world,
especially in Europe; she spoke Italian fluently and German and French well.
Sally married Tom BENSON in 1957; he survives her, as does her son, Chet, of Lake Oswego;
daughter-in-law, Darcy; step-grandson, Chris PARKER; sister, Anne WOOD, of Haverford, Pa;
and brother, George CARRINGTON, of Beverly Hills, Calif. Because she was so outgoing and
friendly, she also leaves behind many friends.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Lewis and Clark College or
the American Cancer Society.
NOTE: I have no connection to these families. Information was found and provided to help
others if possible.
