Hi Ann and Jeannie,
John and Polly Carrington were living in Charlestown Twp, Portage Co., at the same time as
my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Orvis Carrington; so I've kept a file on them on the
assumption that they all tie together back in Connecticut. So many of John and Polly's
children died young I was afraid the line had died out; so I'm delighted to hear there
were survivors. I believe, but cannot prove, that John was the son of Harvey Carrington
(b. 1768 in Goshen, Litchfield Co., CT) and Betsey Catlin (b. 20 Mar 1794 in Harwinton,
Litchfield Co., CT and d. 4 Nov 1864). It appears that Harvey is erroneously
listed/misread in CT vital statistics as "Hassey, d. John, b. Aug. 28, 1768."
(see Barbour Collection Vol. 14 for Goshen, p. 15). I've tried to get back to the
original records, but the town clerk, the state library, etc. all assure me they no longer
exist. Anyway --- Harvey's parents appear to be John Carrington (b. abt 1743 in
Goshen, Litchfield Co., CT and d. 14 Sep 1783 in NY) and Mabel !
Beach (b. 22 Apr 1748 in Goshen, m. 26 Jan 1766 in Goshen and d. 15 Mar 1814 in
Sangerfield, Oneida Co., NY). During the last 5 years or so a Catlin genealogy was
published which has been on some help; I found a copy at the Conn. Soc. of Genealogists
last summer. Sorry I don't have time right now to pursue this further. I may just hire
a genealogist who has done some other work for me to research John and Polly's
ancestry. All the above won't help you much, except to confirm that the Carringtons in
the Connecticut Reserve of Ohio during the early 1800s were indeed from Connecticut.
