I have a great... grandfather, James Carrington born ca 1796 in either SC or
NC. His 1850 census says SC, but one child later says his father was born in
NC. I descend from the oldest son. The oldest daughter, I have found in
1860, but the rest of the family "disappears" after the 1850 census - James,
wife Elizabeth, and children Winnifred, William, Margaret, James, Malinda,
Rachel, Thomas, and Tennessee.
If you have ever seen this combination anywhere in 1860, please let me know!
I understand that some of the New England Carringtons were living in SC pre
1850. Am I correct and if so, could James have been a son?
I have found a John Carrington in 1800/1810 SC. Does anyone know who he
was?
James did not own land in Roane Co, TN so land records do not help with my
mystery. He and family are in court records, they give depositions in a
court case.
Thanks!
