Ms. Bradford:
I was "listening in" about Carringtons and I appreciate your responding.
Some names are in my line of the family but I can't get geography to work.
My gfather was a Rev. [Lovice] Alton Carrington, my brother is a 'John'.
That's probably simply coinsidence.
I'll keep my eyes out for 'Rev. Timothy' Carrington. The story about the
tax collector story is great. My gfather [Lovice] Alton Carrington used to
say, "Any Carrington that isn't a preacher or a teacher is either in jail or
ought to be!" No telling what further research is going to reveal!
Thanks again and I hope to see you later.
Sincerely,
Michael Stephens Carrington

Hello Peter,
Nice to hear from you, although I don't think I can be of much help
to you
at this time. I do not have a William Carrington who married a Jane
Butler
in my central database, and my Carrington line was known to migrate
primarily from GA to TX. All I can do at present is give you a bit of
background in the hope that it might provide you with some clues or
directions for your continued research.
My Carrington line of Madison County, GA origins are all descendants of
Rev.
Timothy Carrington 1742-1822) and Winnifred (King) Carrington
(1758-1852)
who married in Loudoun County, Virginia in 1774, migrated to Wake County,
North Carolina, between 1777 and 1780, then by 1786 migrated on to that
part
of Wilkes County, Georgia, that is today Madison County. Some of
their
children and grandchildren were known to have moved to Harris, Carroll,
Coweta and Troup Counties in Georgia, all of which border on Alabama, and
for the most part the Carringtons in west Georgia moved on to Texas
before
the Civil War, particularly into Upshur County, Texas. One of Rev.
Timothy's sons, John Carrington who married a Sarah Lester, served as Tax
Collector in Coweta County in 1835, collected the taxes, then absconded
with
them, never to be heard of again.
There was also a Carrington line in Orange County, North Carolina, that I
understand originally immigrated from England to Barbados then on to
Orange
County, North Carolina. I am not researching that line of
Carringtons
because there is no known connection between them and my Rev. Timothy
Carrington. I do know that some of them migrated to Alabama.
Another known Carrington line was in Charles County, Maryland and some of
them moved into Fairfax County, Virginia, some into West VA. This may be
the origin of my Rev. Timothy Carrington because the given name "Timothy"
runs in this family, as do the given names of Daniel, John, William and
James, all names that also run in my Rev. Timothy's descendants.
Another Carrington line in Virginia produced some Rev War heroes and
generals, and this family married into the Cabell family of old Virginia.
Several family histories of this line have been written and published
over
the years, but this line is not known to be connected to my Rev.
Timothy
in
any way. I do not know if any of them migrated to Alabama.
Last but not least, there was a Carrington line in Connecticut in which
the
given name "Paul" was prominent down through the
descendants. Again
there
is no known connection to my Rev. Timothy, so I have not researched
this
line.
I know this isn't much help, but hopefully you will find a clue or two to
guide your continued research into your Carrington line. If you find a
connection to Rev. Timothy Carrington and Madison County, Georgia,
please
let me know so I can add that data to our family research group's
central
database and our group Web site. If I can be of further assistance,
please
let me know.
Thanks again for contacting me, and good luck in your research efforts.
Cordially,
Diane Carrington Bradford

My ggggrandfather was William Carrington. He had married a Jane Butler
from GA, so perhaps he, too, was from GA. They had 4 children and the
youngest, Andrew, was listed as 1 year old in the 1880 census. Jane
Butler was listed as widowed in that census putting William's death at
about 1879/1880.
I'm looking for any information available about William Carrington.
Thanks in advance.
