James Carrington was born in 1796 in SC. He and wife Elizabeth were the parents of 10
children all born in Tennessee. The first record I have found in Tennessee was his listing
on the 1830 Roane County, TN census. Their first known child was born in 1824, in
Tennessee. They are in Roane County, TN until after the 1850 census. My quest for a number
of years has been to determine the parents of James. This has been difficult as Carrington
is not a name easily found in South Carolina. A John Carrington pays a tax in Lancaster
District in 1784. The 1790 SC census lists a James Curetine in Lancaster County, SC. Is
this a Carrington? Not sure. The 1800 census names a John Carrington in Lancaster
District, but no Carrington is in Lancaster District on the 1810 census.
A John Carrington is first noted in York District in 1797. He is in the description of a
land deed. A John Carrington is listed in York County, SC on the 1800 census. I'm not
convinced these are 2 different men and families, but they may be. In York District the
name John Carrington is found in land descriptions on deeds in 1812 and 1816. This has
been my info on this great...grandfather until this week. Please respond if you have any
additional information on these facts.
