There seem to be 3 Carrington lineages (maybe more) in the US. The Carrington line in VA
Cumberland Co (George Carrington) and NC Orange/Durham(John Carrington) descend from the
Barbados line (Paul #1 and Paul #2). George was John's uncle. These families in early
generations named their sons Paul, Nathaniel, George, John, James, Edward, Robert,
Ephraim, Codrington, Thomas, Samuel, Sion, Mayo, Joseph, Henry, Duncan, Walker, Alfred,
Clement, Charles, Benjamin, William, Williams, Wiley and Walter. There were branches of
this line in TN, KY, AR, TX, MS and probably other locations.
The Timothy Carrington line in MD 1760s or prior apparently came directly from Ireland or
via Ireland from England and had branches in KY and MO I think (and probably others). The
line includes names like John, Timothy, Samuel, Thomas, Randolph.
A John Carrington (born c1602 England) reportedly had branches in CT 1700 and later. Names
in this line included John, Jeremiah, William, David, Silas, Clark, Samuel, Ebenezer,
Ezekial. There were branches in NY and I presume other locations (haven't researched
this line).
I haven't found a paper trail connecting these Carrington lineages. YDNA testing of
male Carringtons from each of these lines would help determine if they are related.
However, few Carrington males have done a YDNA test so far.
