Thanks for your reply. I have not found any contacts with Smalley as yet but will keep your details in case I do. I have tried derbysgen as you suggested as I had not heard of this before. My contacts go back to 1066 but I have to prove my links as yet

I have a relative named James Carrington born August 15 1700 and died October 4 1777, he married a Sarah and lived in Chinley houses, Bugsworth in 1740. He can be found in the Diary of James Clegg (Part 2) of Chapel en le Frith. I have a word document with all the references to Carringtons in that area.
His father was also a James Carrington baptised in Chapel en le Frith. I also have a word document with the details of Carrington family members from stone carvings inside the doorway of the church at Chapel en le Frith

Okay, I dug out the information about William Carrington in KY. I found this in the DAR Library in Washington, D.C. last April. It is from a document titled: "Grassy Lick, Montgomery County, Kentucky," by Lillie Taul Edsall. The preface says that Lillie Taul Edsall (Mrs. Albert Clinton Edsall) lived at 3904 Centenary Drive; Dallas, Texas, 1956. This document is NOT about Carringtons but she did list a Carrington in the information. She says on page 4: "May 19, 1780 - William Carrington enters 3000 acres upon a Treasury Warrant on Pasture Lick Creek, about a half mile above the Lick, to include a small improvement at the mouth of a branch near a small deer lick in said branch. Withdrawn March 21, 1783."
Now who was this William Carrington? Is this the William Carrington from North Carolina?? My relative was Samuel Carrington who moved to the Mount Sterling area/Grassy Lick area of Montgomery County, Kentucky (from Maryland) in the early 1800s. Were they related? Did Samuel move there because he knew this William Carrington or is this just a coincidence?
I do not know of any connections between the New England Carringtons, the Maryland Carringtons, and/or the North Carolina Carringtons......although connections may have existed on an earlier continent!

The William Carrington I'm descended from was born
abt 1822 or 1823 in either NC or KY. He ultimately moved to Louisiana, served in the Civil War and, though his wife is noted in the 1880 census in , Caddo Parish, Louisiana, he is not. There is a child in that census who is less than a year old. So, he was either gone and just didn't make it into the census or he died just prior. I can't find any record of his death, though the "Sons of the Confederate Veterans" put him in a Veteran home. I can't find any that information for myself. It is his parents whom the LDS folks believe are Alfred and Sarah. But the LDS facts still point back to Paul, Sr., in the 1600s, though they put him in Great Brittain rather than Ireland.
It looks like your William isn't the same as mine, though. I'll be happy to answer more questions if you have any.

There is a Family Group Sheet (FGS) dated 31 Oct 1984 in the Mt.Sterling/Montgomery County (KY) Library compiled by James W. McDaniel for the family of Samuel Carrington (1754-1818) & Mildred McDaniels (1760-1840). The family included a William Carrington (b. 1788). This FGS compares fravorably to the 1810 Montgomry Co (KY) Census indicating that this William was in the household at the time, but the 1820 Census indicates that William may have moved out of his parent's houdse and established his own household.
The parents (Samuel & Mildred) had both been born in Maryland and were married in Port Tobacco on 8 Jan 1782. The FGS shows William being their fourth child. There is no further information on William past the 1820 Census -- assuming the one in the Census and the one in the FGS are the same person which seems aeasonable guess.

Mickie,
I found a reference to a William Carrington who originally got some land in Montgomery County, KY and then later, he gave up the claim. Anyway, my ancestor, Samuel Carrington, moved to this same county in the early 1800s. He moved from Maryland and I have tried to locate more information to see if he was related to this William Carrington in some way. Haven't found anything. Does anybody out there know anything about this?

Assuming you have already posted to the Carrington List, have you tried the Derbygen List?

I know there are a couple of subscibers there, who have Bugsworth Carrington links.
This may be my way through a major brick wall! I am looking for the birth family of Timothy Edgerton Carrington (m. Elizabeth G.) born c.1817 in Kentucky. He
named his first two children Asa and Lucinda, which are names in this family, but I have never been able to make the connection. If he is in this book, please let me
know and let me know how much you want for the book.
Thanks,
Michele
P.S. I sent this directly to your email address on Thursday morning, but hadn't received a response.
