I have found a potential candidate for my elusive J. David Carrington, my
husband's great-grandfather. A John D. Carrington, born about 1840 in
Henderson, TN, shows up in a GEDCOM file that Barbara Bonham sent to me
today!! This fellow would fit by age, but there is no further
information about him, except that his parents are Alfred Carrington and
Sarah "Sallie" Hall.
We are searching for the father of Ida Carrington, b. abt. 1878 in New
Bern, NC and died 05APR1941 in the same place. Her mother was Mary
Elizabeth Collins (daughter of William Collins) who first married Elisha
V. Odum. Mary was born 1839 and died 1915. There were two Odum
children: Elisha E. and Janie. Ida was known to be a half sister to
these two Odums. Her father's name: J. D. or David Carrington was shown
on Ida's death records in 1941.
I have found no record of the death of Elisha V. Odum and there is no
stone for him in the Cedar Grove cemetery in New Bern. I also, have
found no marriage record for Mary Odum and J. D. Carrington in Craven
County.
There does NOT seem to be a "nest" of Carringtons in the Craven County
area, and Orange, Person, Granville seems a far piece off in 1860-70.
BUT there was a good bit of Civil War activity in the New Bern, Ft.
Fisher area and a man born in 1840 was certainly eligible for the war.
That could have taken him to Craven County.
Does anybody, ANYWHERE, have ANY info to count or discount the John D.
Carrington, born about 1840 in Henderson Co., TN as being the father of
our Ida?????????
Thanks much for your help. And a special thanks to Barbara and Rita for
all of their help with this family puzzle.
Ann Veazey Davis
I thought this sounded like a neat program. Just passing it on.
