Good Evening to all...
Since we now have the new West Indies Surname List up, thought that I
would share a few tidbits from my files.
From the book Generations of VA Families:
Mt Peyton R. Carrington, of Richmond, writes an interesting letter
concerning the Carrington family. He quotes from a letter of Mrs.
Elizabveth Carrington of Buckinghamshire, England, 18 July, 1868: "I
was perfectly aware of the connection between your branch of the
Carrington family, that is if you are descended from the George
Carrington, son of Mr. Paul Carrington, who went to America. He is put
down in our record as having emigrated * * " (exactly as it is on the
copy) The granddaughter of George, the emigrant, Miss Eliza G.
Carrington, daughter of his youngest son, Major Mayo Carrington was
alive in 1868, and remembered the crest of the family on some pewter
plate that she had brought from her old home, Boston Hill, Cumberland
Co., but she could not distinctly describe the crest.
The arms of the family of Mrs. Elizabeth Carrington of Buckinghamshire,
England are:
"Aron on a bend sa. three lozenges of the field. Crest---out of a ducal
coronet or a unicorn's head sa.
My note: for anyone interested....I have the Carrington Crest on my
family page....help yourself! It is the same one. URL:

if you are interested and I will send you a copy...snail mail.

To continue the story....
George Carrington came to VA in 1723, with the family of Joseph and
William Mayo. But it seems that long ere that time, Paul, his father,
had visited VA, as the following letters attest:
Barbados, April ye 15th 1703
Mr. Paul Carrington:
Sr we have ordered Capt. Hawkins to spply himselfe to you when he
arrives in Virginia. Wee desire that you would assist him in fraughting
ye sloop Back for the Island. If you cannot fraught her in five weeks'
Time at ffive pounds per Tunne then wee Desire you would send her for
Philadelphia to Mr Charles Sober. What ffraught shee makes to Virginia
wee Desire that you would Remitt in Tobacco, Pitch & Tare in ye Sloop.
If ye Sloop ffraught in Virginia, wee desire that you would put 50 Live
Hoggs on Board out of ye ffraught money. We leive it to yor managemt
not doubting but that you will do for us as if it were your own. Wee

Ancestors of Priestly H. Carrington
Generation No. 1
1. Priestly H. Carrington, born August 14, 1814 in Orange Co, NC; died March 10, 1879 in Henderson Co, TN. He was the son of 2. Scion/Sihon Carrington and 3. Jemima Cozart. He married (1) Ann Carolina "Caroline" Cozart. She was the daughter of David Cozart and Mary "Polly" Carrington.
Notes for Priestly H. Carrington:
Listed in 1850 Henderson Co, TN census as PRIESLTY CARRINGTON (29) with Caroline (28), William R. (1). Both born in NC.
The other Carrington listed in the 1850 Henderson County census was WILEY CARRINGTON (29), with Jamima (59), Frances (33), Munroes (19)--all born in NC. It seems like a good possibility that these are Priestley's mother and brothers.
NC marriage records show a CARRINGTON, Scion married CAZZORT, Jemima 09-AUG-1811 in Person Co, NC.
Listed in 1870 Henderson Co, TN census as PRESLEY CARRINGTON (51), Caroline (49), and other children (except William) as listed on this family page.
Child of Priestly Carrington and Ann Cozart is:
i. Eliza Jane Carrington, born December 31, 1850 in (also given as 1 Jan 1850) Henderson Co, TN; died March 27, 1917 in Henderson Co, TN (Bur. Mt. Ararat Cemetary); married Zachary Taylor Wilson November 23, 1871 in Henderson Co, TN.
Generation No. 2
2. Scion/Sihon Carrington, born 1792 in prob. Person Co, NC; died November 26, 1848. He was the son of 4. Ephriam Carrington. He married 3. Jemima Cozart August 09, 1811 in Person Co, NC1.
3. Jemima Cozart, born Abt. 1791 in prob. Person Co, NC; died Aft. 1850 in prob. Henderson Co, TN.
Children of Scion/Sihon Carrington and Jemima Cozart are:
1 i. Priestly H. Carrington, born August 14, 1814 in Orange Co, NC; died March 10, 1879 in Henderson Co, TN; married Ann Carolina "Caroline" Cozart.
ii. Wiley Carrington, born Abt. 1821 in prob. Person Co, NC.
iii. Frances Carrington, born 1817 in prob. Person Co, NC.
iv. Munroe Carrington, born 1831 in prob. Person Co, NC.
Generation No. 3
4. Ephriam Carrington, born Aft. 1760. He was the son of 8. John Carrington and 9. ??? Pamplin.
Notes for Ephriam Carrington:
Tilley, 1943, says: "Nathaniel Carrington who was born in 1760 and married Anna Davis, had two brothers we are told, named George Carrington and Ephriam Carrington I. We have no record of this Ephriam Carrington I, of his birth, marriage, or death. "
Ann Davis <avzdavis(a)juno.com> says Scion was the son of an Ephriam, and the dates and location make sense here, but there is not any documentation of this relationship at present.
Child of Ephriam Carrington is:
2 i. Scion/Sihon Carrington, born 1792 in prob. Person Co, NC; died November 26, 1848; married Jemima Cozart August 09, 1811 in Person Co, NC.
Generation No. 4
8. John Carrington. He married 9. ??? Pamplin.
9. ??? Pamplin.
Children of John Carrington and ??? Pamplin are:
i. Nathaniel Carrington, born 1760 in VA; died 1830; married Anna Davis.
Notes for Nathaniel Carrington:
"Nathaniel and Anna Davis Carrington settled in North Carolina near Red Mountain and Flat River in Orange County, or what is known now as the northern part of Durham County. They owned several slaves, probably a hundred or more, also several hundred acres of land. Their old home place is still occupied by their descendants, and is known as the Ancestral Carrington home." (Mary Ethel Tilley, Carrington History, 1943, Rougemont, NC)
ii. George Carrington, born Aft. 1760.
Notes for George Carrington:
Tilley 1943: "George Carrington, the son (supposed to be son) of John Carrington who married Miss Pamplin of Virginia, married ? and they were the parents of:
1. James Carrington, Sr.
2. Ruth Carrington I and probably others"
4 iii. Ephriam Carrington, born Aft. 1760.

Hi everyone--
Just found a webpage with some Carrington descendants--it's a
description (with scanned-in photos) of an old Family Bible for the
family of William and Mary Carrington Day of an unknown location (could
be anywhere from Person Co, NC, on West....). Anyone recognize these
names?
The site is: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~rayday/
The text reads (for those of you without internet access):
LOST DAYS
Many years ago, a beautiful old Bible printed about 1876 was
bought at auction. The front cover is heavily gilded and
embossed leather with the names Wm. E. & Mary B. Day printed
on it. The following information is written inside:
Births: William Edgar Day - November 22, 1854
Mary B. Carrington - February 27, 1859
Henry Day - January 30, 1878
Jessie Lou Day - November 18, 1880
James Colby Day - November 6, 1883
Hallie Day - December 29, 1888
Mary Pearl Day - October 18, 1891
Deaths: Jessie Lou Day - February 7, 1881
James Colby Day - March 9, 1914
Mary Pearl Day - January 18, 1914
No locations were given for any of this information.
There are seven old portrait photos (*see above) in the back
of the Bible. Five of them are of men, one is of a woman,
and one is of two women and a man. No names are on the
portraits.
On taken the photos out of the Bible for scanning, it was
discovered that the section they were in was set up like
frames with the pictures inserted/glued in them. It turned
out that four of them were tintypes, and unsuitable for
scanning.
This logo appears on the back of the photograph of the gentleman
on the right and says:

like the original photos please contact the WEBMASTER

The Bible of Wm. E. & Mary B. Day was printed by Forshee
& McMakin at 188 West Fifth St., Cincinnati, OH. It really
is a wonderful book with 1400 steel and wood engravings,
some in color. It is almost 4 inches thick. It was purchased
at an auction in the Kansas City, MO area.
