Hey Carrigan List,
I have been thinking about developing some type of database to house all of
the CARRIGAN census data that I have collected during my research. However,
I am not sure how to go about it. Presently, I have a GEDCOM file in my FTM
software, where I have entered each Carrigan household I find in the 1850
census, and tentatively grouped them as a family unit. Under the census
headings on the facts page, I enter the entire household, attached to the
name of the person noted as head-of-household. When I find the same family
unit in other census years, I then enter the information, along with
reasonable assumptions, into the same family unit. I also include any
marriage and vital information that I find along the way. This has worked
reasonably well to date.
I have seen database templates for census data, but they do not seem to allow
you to track the same person over a period of time. If someone knows of a
template that will allow you to do so, please let me know!!
I have been toying with the idea of posting the above GEDCOM to RootsWeb,
because it is free and accessible. What I would like to do is develop a
place on the internet where a Carrigan Researcher could go to see the
information gathered by other researchers. But in order for this to be
effective, I would need other researchers to contribute thier findings as
well. My research is primarily based in the southeast, as well as NC, so I
have a limited scope of focus.
If there is anyone out there interested in such a project, please contact
me!! I can be reached at gkcarrigan(a)aol.com
Thanks for your time and attention!
