According to my notes, my 4th great grandfather was James Carrigan, Jr., born circa 1770,
at Hawfields, Orange County, NC, and died in 1840 in Cabarrus Co., NC. He was a son of
James Carrigan, Sr. (1716-1793) and Isabel Brown (c.1726-1806) who came to America from
Ireland in 1755. I presume that they were of Scotish ancestry. I do not know if his birth
date is right, because the next older sibling was born in 1760.
In my notes (and I have no idea if they are accurate or not), James Carrigan, Jr. married
Margaret Carrigan...which doesn't seem likely to me, though I suppose it is possible.
They had the following children: Robert Carrigan (1790), James Carrigan III (c.1792), John
Carrigan (1794), Mary "Polly" Carrigan (born c. 1799/1800) and Margaret B.
"Peggy" Carrigan (born c. 1810).
Mary "Polly" Carrigan married William S. Van Pelt (c.1799-1851) in 1821, and
they had 10 children, among them Mary Jane Van Pelt (1831-1906) Mrs. Levi Bell, my 2nd
great grandmother.
Let me know if you think there is a possible connection.
