This is my first attempt to communicate with all the Carrier researchers. I
have done so individually with a few.
I was very amused at you recent E-mail which began "it was a dark and stormy
night...." So I will begin this one with "It was a hot and muggy night here
in Central Florida...." Reached 85 today and will plunge into the 60's
tonight! Well, enough of that nonsense.
I descend from the infamous W. John Carrier and some of this may be redundant
but here goes:
I. GGGGG/GF W. John b. 1705 in England, d. Nov. 1775 in Shenandoah Co., VA
His estate was settled 8/30/1777 in the Co.Clerk's Office at Winchester,VA.
He had 14 living children and owned 300 ac on Powell's Ford, Frederick Co.,
VA.
II. GGGG/GF John, Jr., b. 1728 in England but came to America in 1759. He
married Susannah Jones (b. 1789) who must have been his second wife. She was
d/o Thomas & Ramsey Jones. He appears on the tax rolls in Dunmore Co, VA in
1774, 1775, 1776. 5/16/1806 he bought 87.5 ac from Jacob Weaver on south
side of Holston River in what is now Sullivan Co., TN. Paid 132# 5
Schillings for it. He was a Pvt in Cook's Co., 9th NC Reg - enlisted 5 May
1777; re-enlisted in Col Mebrane's Co. 1st NC Reg. Service ended 5 May 1780.
He received 649 ac.of land.
His brothers and sisters:
Henry, b. 1730 in Eng. Also served in Rev War as Pvt Capt Robert Higgins Co.
8th Va. Reg. commanded by Co. Abraham Bowman, enlisted 1 Aug 1777. He was on
1783 tax list for Shenandoah Co., VA. and the 1810 Census for that co.
Thomas, b. 1732 in Eng. Married Nancy Hatcher d/o Wm. & Joanna Hatcher and
moved to KY. He served as a Capt. in Gabriel Long's Co. of 11th VA Reg fro
8/14/1776 to 8/4/1777. Land records in Sullivan Co. show purchases of land
by him from Thomas Morrell and in Carter Co., TN from Mose Adams.

III. Jonathan B., b. 1775, d. 12 Apr 1860 - his will proved 6 March 1865 in
Sullivan Co., TN (probably held up due to Civil War) He m. Abigail Glover,
b. 1785 and who died between 1850 and 1860 census.
