So fast! I'm Delores and I live in Neenah, WI. I was born and raised
in the upper peninsula of Michigan. My great-grandmother
was Angeline or Angelina Carrier and she's the one I'm looking for
documentation on. I have a 16 x 20 picture of her, she's a
beautiful lady, and I can't find any documentation that she ever lived.
Here's what I know about her.
Husband - Eusebe (yes, that's right) Carrier. She was born in 1849,
lived in Canada but don't know if she was born there or not, it
may be France. First child was Christine born in 1878 in Canada.
Second child was Athemise (yes, that's right) born in 1880 in
Canada and she was my grandmother. Then the family came to Baraga,
Michigan in 1883, then had two sons born in Michigan,
Adelore and Joseph. They are all deceased, of course.
Angeline died in 1889 in Baraga, Michigan in childbirth. The baby,
Marie, lived for three months. I found this information in
the Baraga County Clerk's Office in the 1849 death register. I knew the
year of death because my Grandmother (Arthemise) told
me she was 9 years old when her mother died. I could not find out where
she is buried, no record in the cemetery list for 1849 for
her. There is no death certificate for her either in Baraga County or
the State of Michigan. My grandmother always said she was
born in St. Phillip, Canada. I looked at the 1881 census on a reel of
microfilm in a library in Chicago for St. Pillippe De Neri and
could find no Carrier. Now I found on my computer that there are two
other cities named St. Phillip. I'm hoping I can find some
documentation that this lady lived for 40 years, most of it in Canada, I
think.
I did find that Eusebe moved to Marquette, Michigan, remarried and died
there in 1920. I have his death certificate. I found this
only because an elderly aunt, the youngest of my grandmother's children,
remembered going to Marquette with her mother to
Eusebe's funeral and she said she was 6 years old.
It sure would be a small world if the Sandra from Michigan was also
looking for the same Carrier family, if she is we may be
related. The Saint Phillip's I found on the computer are: Saint
Philippe - Roussillon, Saint Philippe-D'Argenteuil - Argenteuil
and the Saint Phillippe-De-Neri - Kamouraska that I knew about and found
on a map of the Province of Quebec. I could not find
the other two on the map.
Does anyone have any hints for me? Also, it may be that when they lived
in Canada they spelled their name Carriere, I guess
the french way. I'd sure like to hear from Sandra in Michigan, if only
to find out if she's a Yooper too.
