While reading a local history book this week about the Town Of Camden,
Oneida County, NY I came across some mysterious Carriers. Amaziah,
Amari and Jonathian. There are documented Carriers with these names or
similar but the dates don't fit with these three.
This town was settled mostly by immigrants from Conn. after the
Revolution.
Amaziah was involved in the first deaths recorded in the new town. In
May 1799 Mrs. Carrier, a Mrs. Bacon and her child had crossed a river in
a dugout canoe to gather cowslips. When returning the canoe capsized
and Amaziah rescued his wife but Mrs. Bacon and her child drowned.
A later reference concerns a 1800 land contract in the Scriba patent
where two of the buyers were Amari and Jonathian.
After this there is no further reference's to the Carrier's but a
comment was made how many of the early settlers moved on to Ohio and
Michigan.
Today I noticed an interesting web site mentioned on anther roots web
mailing list
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
This site tracks federal land grants in certain mid west states from
Wisconsin to Florida.
I found an Amaziah, Amasa, and others listed in Michigan so this might
be a useful web site to track down ancestors who moved to this area.
Let the list know if anyone has any luck on this web site.

ps: Grady- the site shows a Myron in Michigan...
