The oral history in my part of the CARRIER clan has W. John Carrier coming
from France-German border. Part of the oral history has Carrier being a
French name.
I have heard there are 6 separate lines of Carrier's in the USA.
Georgia Early Armentrout has documented that W.John Carrier arrived as an
indentured servant in 1759. She also documented he had 14 living children
and 7 of them settled in VA:
John Carryer, Jr.
Henry Carrier
Thomas Carryer arrived in 1750
Jonathan Carrier
William Carrier
Susanna Carrier
Solomon Carrier
She states that W. John, John, Jr, Henry, and Thomas were born in England.
And she belives that Thomas Carrier of the 1755 Militia is the same Thomas
above. Thomas Carrier is listed on the "Lists of Emigrants from England to
America 1718-1759 No. 461-P. 38 from Goodmansfield Parish, London, signed
March 16, 1750.
It's also possible that they emigrated from France or Germany via London.
