Irrascible Anson Carrier b ca 1812 Floyd Oneida
NY. Anson's whereabouts after that and indeed his parents names are not
know though there is gret hope that a connection can be made to one of the
elder three sons of John Carrier (Floyd censuses 1800, 1814, 1820, 1830 b.
ca 1760). These three sons (b. 1780 - 1790) were no longer in Floyd in 1820
though a younger son of John named Elias Carrier (b. 1790-1800) is (he was
there in 1830, 1840 and I think 1850 but in 1830 he does not have a son the
right age for Anson living with him. Anson shows up according to Lehlah
Achey in 1834 or 1835 in one of the state censuses I think about the same
time as John Carrier disappears). Anson and Elias lived very near each
other in Floyd in 1834 and 1840.
My best guess is that Anson's father died between 1812 and 1820 and his
mother remarried before 1820. Another possibility is that Anson's father
went another place and that Anson for whatever reason returned in 1834 to
Floyd.
Anson shows up in the 1840 census and then he is gone in 1850. We have
searched all variants of the name. Two of Anson's sons, Abner and Milton
remained in Floyd and worked on the farms of other Floyd residents. Abner
was back in Floyd in 1860 and I think was there either by himself or with
younget son Albert in 1870 as well.
Anson married Jerusha Eddy (b. 1810) daughter of John Eddy and Mary Aiken
Eddy. Mary Aiken was said to e daughter of Edward Aiken of New Hampshire
but that is not confirmed. She is certainly part of that Edward Aiken's
family (which was very large at that point). John Eddy apparently came to
New York just after 1800 from a stoppover in Vermont with his brothers Seth
and Abiel Jr. John Eddy lived near Elias and John Carrier and later Anson
Carrier. Eddy records confirm that John's daughter Jerusha married a
"Currier".
Anson and Jerusha had children (I am going by memory) Milton, Henry, Abner,
Julia, Martha, Ellen, Myron and Albert (I amy have a granddaughter there
with the daughters). Their particular information is all very nicely
displayed at Neal Carrier's site. My ancestor, Myron Carrier, after a stint
in the Union army and a stay in Libby prison (incformation courtesy of my
cousin and fellow list member Sylvia Silva) went to Nebraska possibly via
Michigan and Wisconsin with brother Abner Anson Carrier. He went back to
New York after a couple of year where his wife (Harriet Jane Lindsay of
Russia and Holland Prospect) died and he left his two daughters I presume
with the Lindsays. It is not clear after that and he may or may not be the
Myron who homesteaded in Michagan though a grand neice of his said he was
there. He ended up in the 1880's as a frontier medical doctor (not clear
where he got his training) in Jerome and Camp Verde, Arizona. His daughter
Eleanor, soon after coming to Arizona with her sister Ethel, married my
great grandfather William Loy who was a resident of that area. Myron
Carrier had another family by second wife Melvina Munds.
Some points I think might be of interest:
The Carriers (Anson's group and other lines) favor a couple of interesting
names. Anson is one. I undertand the Seymour Carrier line in Floyd also
had an Anson leading us to believe the families are not so distantly related
as all that. The name Myron was also shared by a Carrier and Civil war hero
in a nearby Pennsylvania county and the name Milton as Virginia Carriers
will know was used in their family as well.
That's enough talk from me. Does anyone know what might have happened to
John Carrier'S three sons or otherwise who Anson's parents might be. Thanks
Grady

A correction on my roll call contribution. Anson himself was not irascible
as far as I know. His obscurity at times just makes researchers trying to
find out about his that way. Apologies to his other descendants.
