Although your Carrier's are no relation to mine, I have learned a lot about how to use
the FreeBMD site on Rootsweb from researching other English branches. It is a free site
with links to the GovtRecordsOffice (GRO) where you can order birth, marriage and death
certificates for seven British pounds each. I get records from there in 10 day here in
Puerto Rico! After your search, click Here to learn what to do now, and on that page
click obtain cert from GRO.
In about 10 minutes search I found William Henry Carrier m. Emma Sophia Peake in the
quarter ending March 1883 in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire.(Record 9b/663) Emma was
born in the quarter ending March 1860 in Hunslet, West Riding of Yorkshire.(Record 9b/207)
There were 3 William Henry Carriers born in England before 1864 (which was my search
parameter).
Henry Roland Carrier born in the quarter ending March 1884 in Lambeth (Record 1d/485)
married Mabel Alice Diment in the quarter ending June 1907 in Dartforth, Kent (Record
2a/1094). Mabel Alice Diment was born in the quarter ending March 1884 in Dartforth,
Kent (Record 2a/477).
To search for children's births enter Pollard years 1884-1911 and all districts and
all counties. You will get a list of all the Carrier children born in England during
those dates. If you check, very few of the births have been entered for 1910 and 1911 so
you might not find children born in those years. (Those are the years I am waiting for to
check on my husband's Pollards) .
I ran the search and then ran it again for Kent since I don't know where they lived
but I knew where they were married. (Most of the time the family married where the bride
was from and lived where the groom was from, however this was a time that many were
seeking work in London so anything goes.) The list is too long to put here. Try it and
email me if you have problems or want to talk genealogy. I did find that there were two
different Gladys May Carrier's born in 1908. Did you get birth certificates on both?
Luck in your searches,
Jeanette
