NEW WORLD IMIGRANTS VOL 1
THE PETIT-GUERARD COLONY BY ST JULIEN R CHILDS
Page 226 Beside Abraham Fleury and his four servants ( whose names, of
course, are not known) , it is probable that the six persons named in
Guerard's warrant of February 18, 1680/ I, also came in the RICHMOND. As
already noted, it is not certain whether these were all servants in Guerand'
family as the warrant states. One of them, Peter Oliver or Llivier, discussed
in the first installment, was probably a free passenger on the richmond whose
headrights Guerard had purchased. the other five were"solomon Bremmer,
charles Formagett , JOHN CARIER, Anna Lafelleine, Mary fortres. I have found
no other record of the two women in south Carollina. a marie forteress
appears in the records of the Threadneedle Streed Church.
Page227 Carriere. Jean carriere appears in the Act of Naturalizatin as a
cooper, a trade for which there was abundant employment in South Carolina,
but as the St Juliens list calls him an inhabitant of santee, he probably
became a planter. According to the list, he was the son of Jean Carriere
and was a Norman like Guerard. No wife of chilren are mentioned but he
eventually married , for the birth of John, son of John St Thomas ans St.
Denis. a john Carriere, possibly the father of the immigrant, was denizened
in England in 1700 a warrant was issued in Southe Carolina, January 1701 for
the survey of 200 acres for John Carcan.
Formaget. The Act of Naturalization describes Charles formaget as a planter
Perhaps he, Bremar and Carriere were compelled to learn something of
agriculture as Guerard's servants and, therefore , took up land when their
indentures expired. Fromaget probably settled eventually on the santee for
1703 he witnessed the will of Daniel LeGendre of Craven county. according to
the St Julient list, he was born in chatellerault whichis in Poitou and was
the son of charles Formaget and Marie Le Nin or Lemain.
