Hello Rob,
This is what I have found at the Centre for you;
Re. the Marriage, I cannot find another information, other than what you
have. Point though on the Licence.
Where at least one of the pair lived in the parish the Chancellor of the
diocese supervised issue of a licence. In large dioceses, Archdeacons. The
Vicars Genaerals of the Archbishops of Canterbury and of York sold licences
to couples who came from different dioceses.
By far the most licensed weddings where made by common licence, but to
1754, the Vicars General, and then after the Faculty Office were empowered
to grant these.
The problem records could be at any of the above Achieve Centre's, as
Banbury moved from diocese to diocese, over a period of time. Presuming the
records survive.
NOTE: The below are ALL for Barret. There are NO Gaskell records in
Banburyshire, at this time. ALSO, your Elizabeth does not seem to 'fit-in',
and please cross reference Baptisms, to Burials, before coming to a
conclusion. John= Baptised/Buried/Baptised/Buried.
Baptisms;
14th April 1708 Mary daug. of John, Carrier.
21st May 1709 Elizabeth " " " .
14th Oct 1710 John Son of " " .
2nd June 1712 John " " " .
7th Dec 1715 Joanna d. of " " .
26th Sept 1735 Elizabeth daug of William Carrier.
2nd May 1739 Mary daug of William and Elizabeth.
2nd Aug 1745 Mary " " " " Mary .
12th Sept 1746 William son of " " " .
19th Oct 1748 Thomas son of " " " .
Burials;
12th July 1710 Elizabeth daug of John, Carrier.
21st march John and Mary son and daug of John, Carrier.
13th Jan 1716 John son of John, Carrier.
28th July 1731 John Barret, Carrier.
4th May 1739 Mary daug of William, Carrier.
24th July 1741 Elizabeth, Wife of William, Carrier.
10th April 1746 Mary, Widow, Relict of John. Dec'd.
Hope of use.
Regards

Subject: Gaskell/ Barrett marriage
Dear Sir
The following record appears in the Banbury Marriage Register for 19th May
1743
"John Gaskell, Warehouseman of St Michael's, Wood Street,
London and
Elizabeth Barrett, Spinster of Banbury, Lic mar at Wickham"
Since they married by licence, I searched the following at the
Society of
Genealogists in London:
Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire marriage bonds 1617-1735
Index of brides & occupations in Oxford Diocesan marriage bonds
1661-1850 in the Bodleian Library
Index of marriage bonds & affidavits for areas of Peculiar
jurisdiction in Oxfordshire, Berkshire & Buckinghamshire
Index of marriage bonds & affidavits for licences granted by
the
Archdeacon of Oxford 1634-1849 4 vols
Index of Oxford Diocesan marriage bonds 1661-1850 in the Bodleian
Library
I could not find the marriage licence in any of the above and it is
not
listed in the Society's Origins web site which lists the Archbishops and
other records of Licences/ Allegations/Bonds etc.
I wonder if you can possibly suggest where I might look further for
the
licence and whether you have any information about the Gaskell/Barrett
families.
John and Elizabeth are my greatx4 grandparents
I look forward to hearing from you
Rob Gaskell
