My great aunt, Cliffane (Fanie) Ann Merrill Carrier wrote a book about
my family geneological history ("Merril Geneology" ISBN 0-937242-17-9).
In this book, she tells the story of the Preble Family. "The father, mother, one
brother, and a baby brother were killed by Indians. Rosilla and 3 siblings were
taken into Canada and sold as slaves. One sister went back to France with the
family who bought her and she and two brothers were tracked down and brought
back..." "Two indentured servants were also taken. A 17 year old girl and a
young boy were not brought back. One of the two siblings killed was a 6 month
old baby who was brained against a tree by the Indians because it cried from
hunger and no one could feed it" Fanie also told of a memorial marker in
Kennebunkport, Maine honoring Rosilla's mother and father. If any one has any
further information, I would appreciate it if you could contact me at my e-mail
address.
