Hello Linda,
Welcome to the Carrier list. I am also from the Thomas Carrier of Virginia
line. There are a few of us that subscribe to this list. My line is as
follows:
GGG Grandparents:
Thomas T. Carrier and Nancy Hatcher
GG Grandparents:
William H. Carrier (b. 1807 TN) and Margaret Gourley
G Grandparents:
John Henderson Carrier (b. 1834 KY) and Margaret Melvina Chesnut
Grandparents:
Stephen Russell Carrier (b. 1879 KY) and Edna Mae Scott
Parents:
William Russell Carrier (b. 1918 MS) and Mae Bess Karnes
Self:
David Carrier
As Darryn's message stated, we have yet to prove who our Thomas's father was.
I have seen a Thomas listed from the W. John Carrier line, but there is a
problem with birthdates. One possible solution is that Thomas's 1764
birthdate may be 10 years off. I believe the only source of the 1764
birthdate is the 1850 census, in which he is listed as 86 years old. If you
trace him back to the 1830 and 1840 censuses, he "jumps" a 10 year age
bracket. If this is the case, Thomas may have been born in 1774 and would
fit into the W. John Carrier line just fine. This is some SPECULATION one my
part and should not be taken for gospel. I would like to hear what you and
the other VA Carriers think.
On a different note, does anyone know the exact location of the Carrier
cemetary in London, KY? If so, has anyone in our group visited it and copied
the names and vital dates from any headstones? I'm sure we could all learn
from this information if it is available.
Happy hunting to all,
Dave Carrier
