Hello Jeanette & Carol,
I've looked in George May's book & will give you what I can from Helynn
Carrier's book (they're about the same for this family).
1. Neither lists any Ames names nor an Abner or Maria Dewey.
2. Helynn shows David H. Carrier married Emmeret Dewey daughter of
Truman OR George Dewey.
They had 3 children Josephine C. 1844-1872, Celia (died young), & George
Dewey Carrier b:1850. lived Silver Creek, NY 1898. No info given if he
married or not.
Emmeret died 1856 so she should be the mother of these 3, no sign that David
H. remarried.
Doesn't knock down any brick walls for Carol, but the best I can do.
Neal

Neal,
Do you have anything to add. I must admit I have not been a very active
Carrier researcher, but I did put my tree on Rootsweb. Did I get the info
on George Dewey Carrier and Maria(h) from Geo. May? My May book has been in
storage for 5 years until my house is finished here hopefully by December.

Hi Jeanette,
No, please share with Carrier researchers. I am waiting for a reply from
the Angola Town Clerk about a marriage record for them - or they may have
married in Chautauqua County. I do think the Dewey book is wrong, but it
might have been compiled / written before they married. There is cemetary
info from Hanover, NY that I found for George and a Maria(h) Carrier - and I
don't think it was George's mother. I will look for it and try to send it
to you. There must be obituaries for them as well.

Thank you, Carol for your well documented reply. I have made changes to
my
database reflecting your research. I have not changed my Rootsweb data
base
as yet but will do so. I had received this information from a Carrier
cousin
so I will update him as well. Would you mind if I send your letter to
the
Carrier mailing list?
