Kindness is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back! !
Hi All!
I have just uploaded the files (new additions will not be viewable until
tomorrow.)
And I have also made some major changes (Thanks! to Barbara Thomas, a
descendant) to the Hatchers of SullivanCo, TN as follows:
1) Lorenzo Dow of OvertonCo, TN (showing as Luney/Looney on census recs) was
previously believed to be the son of Harris Hatcher. Barbara's records show
that this is really Luna Hatcher, son of James and Susanna Hatcher, and it
explains the use of Luney/Looney in the census.
2) I now believe that the Lorenzo Dow found in RandolphCo, AR is the son of
Harris. The research of Jim Leming shows that L D was very involved in the
estate of Charles Hatcher, but did not seem to inherit. I believe he did not
inherit because his father, Harris (brother of Charles), was the primary
heir.
I have made the appropriate changes to the file for these two Hatchers.
But I still see a problem with James (bn 11/8/1789-Bible recs), father of
Luna. He is currently attached as son of William/Joana. We know William is
the son of Jameston/Sarah Hay and their eldest child (bn c1760). We also
know that Jameston had a son, James, per the will of his brother-in-law,
Charles Hay. Unfortunately this James is supposedly bn c1788, very near the
bdate of James, "son of William/Joana."
I find I really have no reliable source for several of the children of
William/Joana, including James. Much of the research on this family was done
by Robert Nave, who thru correspondence about 2 yrs ago, indicated his
confusion concerning the various Jameston Hatchers. He was not sure whether
there were 2 or 3. We now know there were only 2 - Jameston, Sr/Ann Knibb
and Jameston, Jr/Sarah Hay.
From early research by Robert Nave:
Jameston Hatcher Jr. finally
settled in Washington County, North Carolina
(now TN) with his family during the Revolution. His sons were Jameston III,
William, Henry H. and John Hatcher. (Note: There was no son, Jameston III,
but there was a son James. We have also not been able to verify Henry as a
son).
And Robert identifies William's children as follows:
Known children were: John; Thomas; James; Asa; Reuben B.; Jonathan; William
Jr.; Nancy who married Thomas Carrier; and Malinda who married another
Thomas Carrier, nephew to Nancy's husband.
There is a note that William left a will but that the courthouse was
destroyed by fire in 1865. I do not know, if the will has been lost, how the
names of these kids were determined.
The upshot of all this is that there IS a possibility that James is not the
son of William, but may be his brother, and the youngest son of Jameston.
If anyone has any input/sources on William and James, I would love to hear
from you.
Cheers,
Nel
