Morgan is a Welsh name, true, but Carrier is not, and hypenated names like
this are unusual in Wales. There is no-one with the name 'Morgan Carrier'
hyphenated or not currently in the UK, so if the name did exist at all it
has not continued.
The rumors about Thomas are just that, and from what I could read before,
there wasn't any documentary evidence for any of them. Some are odd too -
if he was the executioner of Charles I, he would have been a hero, not
persecuted and needing to flee! The monarchy was not restored to power
after Charles I's death until 1661, well after Thomas was supposed to be
in Salem, so he shouldn't have had to flee to Novas Scotia.
One article suggests that a Thomas Wogan signed the king's death warrant,
and this is meant to be a reference to Morgan, but is probably nonsense -
an executioner would not have signed a king's death warrant. An
executioner was a lowly figure, a poor soldier.
Still, it's interesting to speculate! The oddest thing is that there are
hundreds of thousands of Carriers in the US, but in the UK (ca. 20% of the
size of the US in population) there are only a few hundred, 2000 at most.
