OK, fess up everyone. How many have been accused of having this.
I know I have (no comments from Michigan please)!
I've been home sick for 3 days and getting bored so I'm surfing around and
found some interesting things.
From a posting on
Genealogy.com a Benton Carrier posted the following.

Not sure if anyone is still watching this topic but, I'll add a small twist
to it...I too have pretty much bought hook line and sinker that Thomas
changed his name before coming the Americas...I know I would have...However,
we have family stories about his name being on official documents and the
like...Simply put, not only did he change is name but I believe there was an
error made when someone read his real name...Thomas Wogan was one of two men
that signed the death warrant for King Charles. He was also list as one of
the men to be arrested and sent to the towers, but never showed up... My
guess is that his real name was Wogan, easily mis read in fance script hand
writing...Try writing it fancy and judge for your self! Anyway, i'm on board
that we are looking for Carrier, but the name for us just doesn't exist...I
have found Wogan geneologist that have from the 1026 period up through
1800's..IMMPRESSIVE!!! Their family stories state that Thomas Wogan after
being sought for arrest by Charles II fled to Holland....I'm working on proof
for that...

I've seen this Carrier/Wogan link before so I checked out the Wogan postings
to see what I could find. A John Wogan posted the following.

SO: this might explain the Welsh birth place of Thomas that we can't find and
"The Carrier Scowl".
Well, nappy time.
