I don't know about the Andover House, but the house that Thomas and his sons built in
Connecticut (On the CT River) IS still in my family. It belongs to my uncle.

I assume you are talking about Joseph Carrier b. 24 Jun 1804, d. 19 Jan 1893
Elmira, NY, m. Reliance Hatch. His sister, Lois Carrier, is my connection to
the Carrier Family. Do you know his place of birth and the date and place of
his marriage?

Subject: [CARRIER] Thomas Carrier of Laurel County, KY
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Today I received a copy of the following Power-of-Attorney, which I thought I
would share with the list.
Laurel County KY Deed Book C p 106
Whereas Thomas Morrell late of Sullivan County Tennessee died with out [sic]
any will as far as the undersigned knows, in which event the undersigned is
entitled to portion of the estate of said deceased according to the law of
descent, as he is advised, he being a sisters son of said deceased.
Now this Indenture witneseth that I the undersigned Thomas Carrier of Laurel
County and State of Kentucky do by these presents nominate constitute and
appoint my son William H Carrier of the County and State last named my true
and lawful attorney to demand sue for and receive all such estate real and or
personal that may have descended to me from the said Thomas Morrell and to
execute give and grant receipts and acquittances therefrom to the person or
persons in whose hand the same may be found, or should the said Morrell have
made a will and bequeathed any part of his estate to me I hereby authorize
and empower my said attorney to demand sue for and receive the same, and to
give grant execute seal and deliver unto the executor of said will or whose
hands s____ the said bequest may be all such receipts acquitances discarge
[sic] or indemntie [sic] that may be required by law, hereby fully and
completely empowering my said attorney in either case to demand sue for and
receive and receipts for all such estate as may have descended ___ either by
the law of descent or by division.
And I hereby declaim all the acts of my said attorney done according to law,
in the p______, shall be as being on me as if done by me in proper person.
In testimony of which I have hereunto set my name and seal this 16th day of
June 1845.
Thomas Carrier [mark]
I do not remember whether Thomas Morrell had a will or not. If the estate was
divided among all the surviving heirs, it might prove all of the children
John Carrier and Mary Morrell. Unfortunately, I live a long way from
Sullivan County, TN. Is there anyone on the list who lives in the area who
could check for an estate settlement for Thomas Morrell?
