Subject: [GM-L] "The Billerica Museum" .. Exhibit .. at BATV Offices in
Billerica, Reception 2/15 ..
Hello,
In my own way, I'd like to help the Billerica Museum Committee reach their
goal. Their plans are to create the "Billerica Museum" in the Old Howe
School in Billerica Center, but many roadblocks stand in their way.
While at the Billerica Libraray the other day, I found the following "flyer"
..
"The BATV Gallery is pleased to announce February's "Artist of the
Month."
The Billerica Museum presents *History from the Heart* on display during the
month of February.
You are codrially invited *Opening Reception* Saturday, February 15, 5 to 7
pm .. at BATV Studios,* 430 Boston Road, Billerica Center
Historically, February is a special month for Billerica. We celebrate the
birthdays of Frederick A. MOREY, Clara A. SEXTON, Dr. Solomon HAJJAR, and
Dr. Zadok HOWE .which. fall during this month. And, both the Billerica
Historical Society and the Old Howe School were incorporated this month.
Also, in February 1996, Rep. Bill GREENE declared .Feb. 20th 'Historical
Day.'
Mandated by Town Meeting in 1989, the Billerica Museum Committee has been
tenaciously working towards realizing a museum for the town of Billerica.
Hampered by years of neglect at the Old Howe School, as well as
inaccessibility to the first floor, the Committee's efforts have long been
stalled. With renewed interest stirred by the approaching 350th Anniversary
of the Town, a new momentum has been created and the Committee is heartened.
A Grand Opening of the Billerica Museum in 2005 is the main goal, and with
the inertia of the past now broken, the Committee aims to carry forward Dr.
Zadok HOWE's vision of the Old Howe School continuing as an educational
institution.
Meanwhile, the burgeoning collection cries out for display space. This
exhibit at BATV is but a modest start to making the 'Museum' visible to the
Billerica public. Plans are underway to temporarily utilize space in the
Local History Room at the Billerica Public Library as a stepping stone to
the Museum's ultimate home.
Watch for continuing news of the Museum's progress!"
*For those who do not know, BATV stands for "Billerica Access Television."
It is our "local-access cable-TV office," from which come many televised
Billerica meetings, and locally produced shows.
Their offices are in Billerica Center, but they are behind the buildings
which sit in Billerica Center. From any direction, when you arrive at the
Billerica Common, look for the "First Parish Church" and the Library on the
west of the "rotary" and "a white building" which houses the
"Mangia Mangia
Restaurant" on the east side. BATV is directly behind the "Mangia Mangia
Restaurant."
FYI: There is the Old Howe School and the Howe High School. The Old
Howe School is where the Billerica Museum will be located. Directly
across the street is the former Howe High School, which is now the Billerica
Town Hall. And, the Billerica Memorial High School is at the other end of
this building. Now, a little south of there directly in the Center is the
former Town Hall which is now the Billerica Public Library. :o)
FYI: There is a document in the Local History Room of the Billerica
Public Library, called "A Walking Tour of Billerica Center ...." It was
written a few years back .. to describe the houses and buildings which
currently sit .. surrounding the Town Common .. and what historical
significance they are.
I am trying to find a way to create a web site where this document can be
presented, and offer photographs of each house and building to go along with
the Text. ("Before and After" ??)
During my genealogy research, just this winter, I have had several requests
from people in other states .. for photos of "Billerica Center." And,
the suggested web site seems like the BEST way ..for people who have
ancestors who were part of Billerica's history .. to see "the Town."
FYI: Also in progress is one of those "photo history books" of
..Billerica .. And, if anyone has any photos they would like to offer to
the people putting this book together, they would be most welcome. You
do not need to give up your photo .. even for an hour. A person in
Billerica Center will just "scan" your photo into his computer, and return
it to you.
Thank you for your time.

Was hoping it would give the number of people living in the household.
Praying it would distinguish Peter BLANCHARD Johnson, which it does not,
based on the help I have recieved. I realize the 1830 (and many early census
records) dont give much info, just wanted to see _what_ it had.

Does anyone know where I should look to find out some information about
this business. One of my ancestors own it; he may have held the
original patent on "minute tapioca." I looked on google and found out a
little information, but nothing on Israel Jacob STEVENS, who was born
on 11/5/1857. Karen T.

Subject: [GM-L] PHOEBE LANCTO/LONCTO GADIAN
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Looking for info on PHOEBE LANCTO/LONCTO GADIAN. She is the daughter of my
gggrandfather, Francois Esaie Lancto (Loncto) and his first wife, Flavia
Bisaillon. This is what I have so far and really am stuck.
Full Name: Phoebe Lancto (Loncto)
Date of Birth/Place: New York, 1863
Died in Massachusetts: April 6, 1893 at 29 years old.
Married name?: Gadian
According to the 1880 census (which I have a copy of)
(also LDS file has last name spelled LONCTO), she was living with her father,
sister Esther (age 15), brother Esaie, JR. (Xie) (age 13) and step mother,
DELIA (CARDINAL)
LANCTO/LONCTO (who is my gggrandmother) as well as various half brothers and
sisters.
By 1863, at age 29 she died in Massachsuetts and buried
at St. Michaels in Springfield MA under the name of
PHOEBE GADIAN.. (which I have a picture of also) which is the family plot.
(Francois-Esaie and Delia are also buried)
Now I am having a problem trying to find where, when, who she married and if
there were any children and etc.
HELP!!!
