No real details given here but kind of a interesting link for Willis's maternal
genealogy.

Subject: John Caswell and Mary Haight
Hi,
I have stumbled across some genealogical information you might be interested
in for future reference. It happened while I was at the New York Public
Library using their station in the Genealogy dept. that has an account with
HeritageQuestOnline.com. This system looks up names in many genealogy and
history books in a huge database.
I was looking up my 6th great grandparents, Benjamin Haviland and Charlotte
Park. I found a reference called "Sons of the American Revolution" wherein I
found the below citation. When I got home I logged into
Ancestry.com to see
if anyone else had found this particular line, and noticed that nobody (at
least on this system) has; but since you're a Caswell it might be of
interest to you because it would mean a massive extension to your direct
ancestry. (I'm assuming John Caswell is your direct ancestor?)
"Charles Stewart Smith married second Henrietta H. Caswell, daughter of John
Caswell of New York, and Mary Haight, daughter of Halstead E. Haight, son of
Nicholas, born 1761, son of John, born 1738. John Haight married Abigail
Haviland, daughter of Benjamin Haviland and Charlotte Park."
I already had Nicholas Haight in my database, although I had a different
birth date for him (27 Jul 1760), and his parents (I had the birth date 13
Jan 1735 for John). Nicholas and his wife are recorded in "The Haviland
Genealogy" by Josephine C. Frost, but none of their descendants. "The
Haviland Genealogy" takes the Haviland ancestry all the way back to Thomas,
Sieur De Haveilland, Jurat of Guernsey in 1470. I later connected a lot of
other interesting people who descended from Thomas, including actresses
Olivia De Havilland and Joan De Havilland (stage name Joan Fontaine), Sir
Geoffrey De Havilland (inventor of the De Havilland aircraft), David
Haviland (founder, with his family, of Haviland brand porcelain), Willis
Haviland Carrier (the inventor of air conditioning), William Pitt (the first
Prime Minister of England), Timothy Aaron Haviland (who died in the World
Trade Center on 9/11) and his first cousin Dr. Laurel Salton Clark (who died
in the recent space shuttle Columbia accident).
It would therefore appear that, at least as far as "Sons of the American
Revolution" is concerned, there is a bridge from your genealogy into that of
mine. I don¹t recall the exact name of the "Sons" reference and the author,
as I was in a rush and didn¹t write it down, but I will call the library
tomorrow and get the rest of that information. If you want that, let me know
and I'll pass it along when I get it. Meanwhile, if you're interested in
pursuing this connection, you should purchase a copy of "The Haviland
Genealogy" by Josephine C. Frost from one of these sources:
