I'm not sure what you mean about Amos. Amariah is who you said the letter mentions as
Jesses father, Amos would be grandfather to Jesse. Isn't the letter from written by
Solomon, Jesse son, so Jesse is the one who died young?
As for the records they don't seem to give Amariah a father at all yet there are lots
of records that Amariah existed in the same areas at the same time with lots of
descendants who all are clearly not Amaziahs. Anyway...
I could not find any record in the DAR website for Hogins in the Revolutionary war.
Perhaps we can get some pension papers if the widow applied before she remarried.
