Does anyone have access to the PA 1830 census and the PA 1840 census? It would really help
me solve a mystery if I knew what CARRIER/CARRIHER families were listed.
Thanks.

Well, I finally went to Crawford Co., Pa. this past weekend to hunt for the headstone for
Amariah Carrier. I didn't have any luck in finding his stone. I found a lot of small
cemeteries
in Randolph and Rome Twps. There weren't any Carrier's in any of them...there
were quite a few
old stones that couldn't be read. Centerville has a very old cemetery that is well
kept enclosed in
an iron fence with many old graves, but Amariah was not there either. I know there were
cemeteries
I didn't get to, maybe some other time, spent several hours trying to find the
cemetery in Skeltontown,
but I couldn't even find anyone who ever heard of Skeltontown. (I'm going to try
this one again).
Also went to Salamanca and Kinzua Dam looking for Indian burial grounds, no luck there
either.
When the Kinzua Dam was built in 1963 many of the burial grounds were flooded and graves
were
relocated. Some are documented, some are not and this was done by the Pgh Army Corp of
Engineers.
There is a very large cemetery in Venango Twp, Venango Cemetery, that is also well kept,
with old graves.
You could probably write to them and ask if there is a listing for any
Carrier's.(there are probably a thousnad graves).
That was the extent of my 2 day stone hunting adventure.

This came across one of the lists I subscribe
to:http://alexanderstreet.com/resources/civilwar.access.htmIt is supposed to be free until
April 30. Genealogists will probably bemost interested in the Civil War Research Database
on the site.
I clicked on the American Civil War Research Database, then typed Carrier in the search
box and came
up with 193 soldiers with Carrier name. My David Andrew Carrier is listed there with
info.
Hope this helps someone.
