I received this email from a Carrier cousin in Minnesota and thought
I'd post it here to see if anyone has any info on these names. I
haven't been able to tie him into the family tree yet but hopefully we
can even if it means admitting to having a polygamist in the family.
"I too am a decendant of Martha Carrier, or have been told by my
family. I have traced my family tree back to my great great
grandfather, John A. Carrier born about 1826 in DeWitt, NY, but I
don't have a record beyond this. John A. Carrier worked and lived in
Milwaukee much of his life and was a blacksmith. He served in the
Civil War from Wisconsin.
An interesting note, my great grandfather Albert Dudley Carrier (John
A.'s son)was something of a notorius Johnny Appleseed and a
polygamist. He was a civil engineer working for the Great Northern
Railroad. He apparently married multiple wives along the route and
named the first son of each of these wives, Albert Dudley Carrier Jr.
My grandfather was the second of these juniors. Born in Minneapolis.
The first was born in Wisconsin. I have my Great great grandfathers
Hailton Railroad Special watch give to him by the Great Northern. I
believe Dudley is another family name as it appears in middle names
and other places in my family history."
